Hannibal Buress came to Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale on June 24, 2010 — a show that caught the Chicago-born comedian at an early stage of a career that would eventually make him one of the most distinctive voices in American stand-up. Buress had already appeared on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comics Unleashed, and Comedy Central's Live at Gotham, and his deadpan, observational style was already fully developed.
Buress's comedy is built on a kind of studied nonchalance — he delivers observations about everyday life with a flat affect that makes the punchlines land harder for the delay. The Revolution Live crowd, accustomed to more energetic performers, found themselves leaning in to catch every word, and the laughs that followed were genuine and sustained.
