This Weekend's Geography
4 neighborhoodsSOBEWFF has always been a world-class festival that happens to be in Miami. The 2027 edition is something different: a festival that is actively about Miami. The confirmed lineup includes more Miami-specific programming than any recent edition — events that are not just set in the city but are genuinely rooted in it, reflecting its neighborhoods, its chefs, its food culture, and its particular way of being in the world.
SOBEWFF 2027 is not just a world-class festival that happens to be in Miami. It is a festival that is actively about Miami — its neighborhoods, its chefs, its food culture, its particular way of being in the world.
Overtown EatUp: The City's Most Important Neighborhood
Sunday, February 28 — 12:00 PM — The Urban, Overtown. Hosted by Marcus Samuelsson. This is the event that matters most to Miami. Overtown is one of the oldest Black neighborhoods in the South, a community with a deep culinary history that has been systematically underrepresented in the city's food narrative. Samuelsson — who has made the celebration of Black culinary culture a defining feature of his career — brings the festival into the neighborhood rather than asking the neighborhood to come to the festival. The Overtown EatUp is not a charity event. It is a statement about whose food counts, whose stories get told, and what a food festival owes the city it occupies. It is the most important event in the SOBEWFF 2027 lineup.
El Mercado: Latin America in the Design District
Saturday, February 27 — 8:00 PM — Miami Design District. Part of the Miami Design District Event Series. Hosted by Michelle Bernstein and David Martinez. El Mercado: The Flavors of Latin America is the event that most directly reflects Miami's identity as a Latin American city. Bernstein, one of Miami's most celebrated chefs, brings her deep knowledge of the region's cuisines to an evening that is equal parts market, dinner, and cultural celebration. The Design District setting — a neighborhood that has become one of the most architecturally and culturally significant in the city — is the right frame for it. This is Miami as it actually is: Latin, layered, and deeply proud of it.
Eats & Beats: The 305 in One Room
Saturday, February 27 — 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM — ZeyZey Miami. $100 all-in. George Arango, the man behind Mr. Eats 305, has built one of the city's most trusted voices in food by spotlighting the restaurants, chefs, and hidden gems that make Miami one of the country's most exciting dining destinations. For Eats & Beats, he brings his personal favorites together in one place at ZeyZey — the open-air gathering spot on the Miami River known for live music, food, and unmistakable 305 energy — and then steps behind the DJ booth himself. The format is walk-around tasting plus a soundtrack curated by someone who actually knows what Miami tastes like. This is the most authentically local event in the festival.
FoodieCon: The Food Internet Comes to Miami
Sunday, February 28 — 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM — Baia Beach Club at Mondrian South Beach. $100 all-in. FoodieCon is the event that most directly reflects where food culture is going. The digital tastemakers, chefs, and culinary personalities shaping the way we discover, cook, and talk about food — stepping off your screen and into Miami. Live cooking demonstrations, candid conversations, interactive panels, meet & greets, immersive activations. The food internet, IRL. The Mondrian South Beach setting — Baia Beach Club, with its indoor-outdoor flow and direct beach access — is exactly right for an event that is about the intersection of food, content, and community. Lee Schrager, who built SOBEWFF from 6,000 to 65,000 attendees, has been one of the most vocal advocates for food content creators. FoodieCon is his bet on where the next generation of food culture lives.

Coffee Culture: The Design District's Morning Ritual
Sunday, February 28 — 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM — Jungle Plaza, Miami Design District. Part of the Miami Design District Event Series. Coffee Culture is the most Design District event imaginable: coffee, brunch, and wellness in a neighborhood where all three are taken seriously. The Design District has become one of the most culturally significant neighborhoods in Miami — a place where food, fashion, art, and wellness naturally intersect. Coffee Culture is the festival's acknowledgment of that. It is also the most accessible event in the Sunday lineup: a walk-around format, all food and drink included, in one of the most beautiful outdoor spaces in the city.
Taken together, these five events — Overtown EatUp, El Mercado, Eats & Beats, FoodieCon, and Coffee Culture — form a portrait of Miami that is more complete and more honest than anything the festival has offered in recent years. They reflect the city's Black culinary history, its Latin American identity, its local food media ecosystem, its digital food culture, and its Design District moment. SOBEWFF 2027 is not just visiting Miami. It is paying attention to it.
