Part of our ongoing curation of what it means to live, love, and play in the Magic City.
Design Miami is still two months away, but the design world is already moving. Basic.Space — the curated IRL-to-URL marketplace that has quietly become one of the most interesting platforms in contemporary design commerce — just announced The Luxury Draw, and the entry price is one dollar.
The prize is called The Lounge. It is a fully curated room — furniture, lighting, rugs, a coffee table — anchored by a never-before-seen bespoke piece from Harry Nuriev of Crosby Studios and a three-piece Virgil Abloh c/o Vitra collection that first appeared in 2019 and has not been available since. One winner. Randomly selected December 8, 2026.
The centerpiece is the Crosby Studios seat — a business-class airplane chair reimagined as functional sculpture. Fully upholstered in metallic silver fabric, complete with reclining armchair, footrest, and TV screen. Nuriev, who travels constantly, describes the airplane seat as a one-square-meter studio: "It's where many of my ideas were born, a small, isolated capsule where I can focus, work, think, and disconnect from everything around me." The object is that feeling, made permanent.
The airplane seat has become a kind of one-square-meter studio for me. With this object, I wanted to recreate that feeling.
Surrounding it: Jean Prouvé's Antony chair (1950s) and Petite Potence lamp (1942) in Abloh's signature baby blue, a Ceramic Block from the same collection, Gatto Lamps by Achille and Pier Castiglioni for Flos, the Bambole Sofa by Mario Bellini for B&B Italia, a Diamond Dusty White Rug by Nordic Knots, and the LC10-P Coffee Table by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and Pierre Jeanneret for Cassina. This is not a mood board. This is the actual room.
The Miami connection is real. Design Miami — the annual fair that runs alongside Art Basel Miami Beach each December — has long been the city's highest-profile moment for collectible design. Basic.Space is operating in that same conversation: the idea that design objects carry cultural weight, that provenance matters, that a Virgil Abloh piece is not just furniture. The Luxury Draw lands squarely in that world, and it arrives just as Miami's design calendar starts filling up.
All proceeds benefit the Virgil Abloh Foundation, which supports underrepresented emerging creatives and designers. The Lounge will be presented as a physical installation at Basic.Space New York from November 13–19, 2026 — where on-site entries via Apple Pay will also be available. If you are in New York for any reason that week, it is worth a detour.
The PGM Edit
The draw is open now. One dollar. One room. The kind of design that usually lives behind velvet ropes or inside Christie's preview rooms. Basic.Space is making the argument that access should not be the barrier. — PGM
